Who has the authority for open burning?

The authority for authorizing (opening and closing) open burning rests with the Fire Chief of the fire protection agency having jurisdiction for where you are. Gallatin County Emergency Management administers the system on behalf of the fire protection jurisdictions to maintain a common system across the county.

What is a Burn Ban?

In some severe situations, the Gallatin County Commission may implement high fire danger areas (commonly referred to as burn bans). When this is implemented, additional restrictions are put into place to minimize the risk of new fire ignitions.
